How to use EvoVPN

All you need to do to ensure your online privacy and security is to download EvoVPN on the App Store, then you can select the virtual location you wish to view content from, open your browser or apps and use them freely. The virtual location you choose will make it appear as if you are located in that country.

If you open EvoVPN for the first time or on a new device, you need to setup your VPN configuration by simply tapping “Allow” when prompted.

What is a VPN?

VPN, or virtual private network, keeps your data safe online from hackers, snoopers, and identity thieves, while providing unrestricted access to blocked websites and services.

A VPN ensures that the information traveling between your connected device (computer, smartphone, tablet) and the VPN’s server is encrypted — and therefore secure from hackers, cyber criminals, and data thieves. As an added bonus, with your VPN connected, you can also access restricted websites and apps from anywhere in the world.

Without the security of a VPN, your web traffic is exposed. This means that cyber criminals can intercept your personal data and your ISP can see what you do online.

When you connect to EvoVPN, your web traffic is routed through our secure VPN servers, where it is then encrypted. This acts as a ‘tunnel’ for your data to travel through, keeping your sensitive information secure.

When should I use EvoVPN?

You should use EvoVPN when you:

  • use public Wi-Fi hotspots. It is surprisingly easy to retrieve your personal information or have someone spy on you from another computer in the same Wi-Fi hotspot unless all your traffic is encrypted with EvoVPN.
  • want your privacy protected online (which may be all the time).
  • want to access any online content. EvoVPN gives you the ability to access all online content. Anonymously, safely and securely access the internet.

If you are a Premium user, you automatically have access to “Always On” mode, so you will never have to worry about any of the above because you will always be protected.

How does a VPN hide my IP address?

With a VPN, you are effectively switching out your computer’s real IP address with the IP address and physical location of the VPN’s server. This ensures you do not expose your personal information. Given there are many people using the same server simultaneously, it’s much harder to separate your data from the data of others on that server. By changing your IP address, you can block people from tracking your location.

Will a VPN slow down my internet connection?

It depends on what VPN service you use. Since VPN services encrypt your data and require you to connect to a specific server before accessing the internet, these extra steps may slow down your connection. Low-quality VPN services will cause a significant slowdown on even the fastest internet connection. Sometimes the difference is so drastic that it can render a high-speed connection almost unusable. You can use a VPN Speed Testing Tool to compare the performance of different applications.

However, if you’re using a top-tier VPN service, the difference in speed usually isn’t noticeable, and can sometimes even speed up your connection. EvoVPN servers are one of the fastest in the industry, due to our state-of-the-art VPN protocol.

The internet is too slow

When you’re connected to EvoVPN or any other VPN service, data going in and out of your device travels through the VPN servers first before reaching its target. That’s how internet anonymity is achieved and why it’s normal to experience speed reduction by 30%-50% when using any VPN service.

Sometimes switching connection OFF\ON a few times can help the app to search for servers that are closer to you, and therefore, faster. If this step doesn’t help and you find your internet speed is being affected by 50% or more while using EvoVPN, please run the following test and contact our support team.

To perform a speed test on your iOS device:

  1. Start EvoVPN and connect to any virtual location
  2. Go to http://www.bandwidthplace.com/
  3. Important: The speed test should be performed in the same location you’re connected to. Tap on the server drop-down list and set the country to the same virtual location that you selected in EvoVPN, or the closest possible location to the selected virtual location
  4. Wait for the test to finish and take a screenshot of the results
  5. While EvoVPN still on, open a new tab and get your IP address here. Take a screenshot of the IP and location that is displayed
  6. Disconnect EvoVPN
  7. Go to http://www.bandwidthplace.com/ again. Test your speed using the same country you previously selected and take a screenshot of the results
  8. Contact our support team at [email protected] with the screenshots attached.

I cannot access Netflix

  1. Make sure you are a Premium user;
  2. Close Netflix app/website;
  3. Open EvoVPN app;
  4. Open a dropdown virtual location list;
  5. Select “United States – Streaming” location (or any other location that has “Streaming” in the name);
  6. Open Netflix app/website;
  7. Enjoy unrestricted access.

I cannot access a website

There are a few reasons why you may not be able to access a specific website:

  1. You are using EvoVPN while you are not a Premium user: In this case, when accessing some sites such as Netflix or adult sites, you will see a payment wall. If you are using the iOS device and not a Premium user you will see a captive portal. In both cases to resolve this issue, you need to become a Premium user.
  2. The website that you are trying to access has your cookies: In this case, you will need to clear your cookies and try to access the site once again.
  3. There is an actual problem with our servers: If have already cleared cookies and you have a Premium subscription, then it is likely that there is an issue with our servers. If this happens, please contact our support.
